Our Mothers

'' My mom is the best mom in the world because she took care of me my whole life and she's always there for me. I love her and she makes me happy and I make her happy.”

By Denise

My mom is the best mom in the whole wide world because she is special to me. She loves me very much and I take good care of her. If her whole body hurts, I cuddle up with her because she likes it. ”

By Caylee

My mom is really special to me. When I hug her, it makes her really happy. I love her very much and I tell her that she is the best mom in the whole wide world. She took care of me so I will make sure that I will take of her. ”

By Iman

My mom is the best because every time I ask her if I can go swimming, she says yes and even sometimes when I say that I want to play with my sister, she puts us in the games room together and I love it there.”

By Madel

My mum is the best because she lets me play with Joseph and I can watch TV with her. I like to give her big hugs.”

By Joshua

My mum is the best because when I'm sick, she helps me get better and I love her because she's proud of me when I make tea by myself. Sometimes when I'm going to bed, she remembers to kiss me good night. ”

By Tendresse

My mum is the best in the whole wide world because when I want to go to bed, she lets me. Every time when I get hurt, she helps me. She likes to cuddle me a lot and that's what makes her happy and that's why she's the bestest.”

By Vallie

My mum is the best because she loves me.”

By Kiss

I love my mum because she lets me carry my little sister and one time we went to a park and then I said I wanted candy floss and then she says yes. If I'm sore she helps me up; if I'm really sore, she takes me to the doctor and puts a plaster on me. ”

Week of February 18-22

After having Monday off because of the President's Day holiday, we came back refreshed on Tuesday and began typing up our version of 'Peter and The Wolf', as retold by the K-1 class.

In the garden, we watched the leaves of the pineapple bush take firm root and seen fresh green sprouts come up. Students collected lettuce, cabbage, basil, cucumber and tomatoes from the garden this week and they were all sent home.

This week also saw the start of the new After School Activities (ASA's) with students opting for either an active sporty task on a Thursday and an artistic skill on a Tuesday.

Students continued to work both independently and in groups in class for social sciences.

Week of February 11 to February 15

Hi everyone,

We had a fun week at school. Got to plant a few pineapple bushes in the garden so we'll keep you posted on their performance. It was used as part of our 'Changes' unit to show that we could recycle, reuse and replant the head of a pineapple to see if we could grow our very own. We hope the experiment works.

Students complied their own version of Peter and The Wolf which we will type out and donate to Ms. April's library.

We also had a couple of visitors from Canada do a read aloud with the class. The visitors were Ms. Heidi's parents, Dave and Lynda, and it was fun having them in class. We also took them on a visit to our garden and they were suitably impressed.

Mr. Michael and Mr. Gado substituted for Mr. Marc on Friday as he was playing with the school softball team in Ouagadougou. Everyone had a great time in class.

Student ID's were given out this week so parents should hold them in their vehicles just in case they are asked for at checkpoints as well as for access to the Rec. Center.

News from K-1

Welcome all,

We began the week by welcoming 'Kiss', a new student from Douala, Cameroon to the class. Kiss has two other siblings starting the school this week as well. Can you guess who they are and which grade they're in?

Miss Tiffany's G2 students joined us for part of the week as G3 and G4 were taking external tests. It was great to be reunited with last year's G1 class and it's amazing to see how they have continued to excel. We spent the time buddy reading, beading, making Valentines Day cards, flash card math and helping our younger brothers and sisters out in class. Thank you G2. You're welcome anytime.

Thursday and Friday was designated for 'Show and Tell' and several students brought in very informative toys such as pop up doll houses and world wrestling champs. Thanks to everyone for contributing.

I'm interested in putting a 'Career Day' together. Love to hear from any parent with a child in class if they'd be interested in sharing. Alternatively, any parent that would like to pop by and do a Read Aloud in class or share an experience or simply help out with a bake sale, please let me know and I'd be happy to oblige. Our current theme in Social Sciences is entitled 'Change' and fond reflections of life as a child and how it has changed since then or changes that relate to you would be very helpful for the group.

Birthdays this week include Denise who will be celebrating it on Sunday. Congratulations Denise! Happy birthday! Have a great day!

A Week In The Life of K-1 @ AISN

This week was a busy week. Report cards were sent out on Friday, February 1, so if you are a parent checking the blog, please sign and return the yellow manila folder to the office or homeroom class.

We added a few more trees to the garden this week including papaya, lime and banana. We transported the fertilizer and planted three patches of potatoes along with the help of the gardeners, Mr.Hubert and Mr. Saidou. Cabbages will soon be ready, so get your cabbage roll recipes dusted off.

There's also a plentiful basil supply should you need more plants for your own garden. Just write in your child's assignment book and we'll get them to you asap.

We had individual class photos taken by Ms. Tiffany on Wednesday for the Yearbook and we then took some class photos inside and outside class to be added later by the students.

We had an unexpected visitor during the week when Ms. Heidi dropped by to give a liquid watercolor lesson, blending and mixing primary and secondary colors. Everyone was thrilled.

We continued making our individual and class calendar for 2013 to be used in class which will eventually make it's way home. We'll keep you posted.

Some photos were taken of the after school activities on Thursday which had the elementary students doing hip hop gang'um style dancing while others played beach volleyball and dodgeball.

Bye for now,
